Nigeria: My Wife Is a Tigress, She Bites Me Frequently, Man Tells Court

Lagos — A 44-year-old civil servant on Tuesday asked an Ojo Customary Court to dissolve his marriage, accusing her wife of 10 years of biting him at the slightest provocation.

The petitioner, Samuel Yisa, described the incessant bites by his 33-year-old wife as "animalistic and a wicked act of defence".

"This woman is a tigress. Even before any quarrel between us becomes heated up, she will spontaneously reach for any part of my body and bite me.

"I kept reporting to her parents with the hope that she would be cautioned but now, I want a divorce," he said.

He told the court that he was once hospitalised following a deep cut on his hand as a result of her bite.

The respondent, Victoria Yisa, begged the court in tears, stating that she has become a changed wife and asked the court president to help save her marriage from collapse.

"I am no longer a fighter as I have changed sir and this act will not repeat itself," she said in tears.

The acting court president, Mr S.B Giwa, asked the couple to return home and settle their differences and report back to the court and adjourned the case to Oct. 23.

To err is human;to forgive is divine, as the saying goes, brother. Give your marriage a chance to succeed. Your wife claims that she is a changed woman, who is not inclined to fight or bite anymore. Let her have the opportunity to demonstrate that. And you, dear wife, why would you want to hurt someone you love? There is a better way to settle your quarrels. Remember your vows to hold, to love, and to cherish till death do you part. Vows should mean something, especially when they are said before the altar in the presence of God and man. With God's help, keep your marriage. Divorce should be least on your minds. God bless you, your marriage , and your family.
