Namibia: Italian Judge Dies in Car Crash

TWO Italians, among them a judge, and a Namibian died instantly after a car they were travelling in collided head-on with a truck on the road between Otjiwarongo and Okahandja on Monday evening.

Media reports in Italy yesterday said Judge Michele Barillaro and a lawyer friend were in a Land Cruiser with a Namibian when it collided with a truck.

The accident took place between 20h00 and 21h00 about 10 kilometres outside Otjiwarongo on the road to Okahandja, according to Deputy Commissioner Gerhard Uataurua Mavenjono.

The two Italians and their Namibian driver were travelling from Okahandja towards Otjiwarongo.

The top part of the Land Cruiser was completely flattened.

The truck driver sustained serious injuries, and was admitted to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital.

Police investigations to determine the cause of the accident continue.
