Gambia: Flood Kills Woman in Farafenni

Nbr — A severe flooding caused by a torrential rain recently claimed the life of one Awa Jawo, a 35-year-old business woman in Farafenni, North Bank Region. The late Madam Jawo drowned in one of the waterways along the Farrafenni-Lamin Koto highway, after a downpour.

Edrissa Jawo, a sibling of the deceased told the Daily Observer at the AFPRC General Hospital that his sister closed her shop at around 7pm after the heavy rain. He said while the late Awa was heading home, she fell into the waterway and was swept off by the fast running water.

He said the Fire and Rescue Services responded when the news broke out, and a massive search was conducted with the support of some residents of the town. The officers later found Awa's body near the Glory Baptist Church. She was then rushed to the AFPRC General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The late Awa Jawo was laid to rest on Wednesday at her native village Jamagen in Sabach Sanjal.
