Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua is this Friday scheduled to host a Sh10,000 plate fund raising dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant in Nairobi.
Tickets for the dinner which is being organised by the Karua presidential campaign secretariat led by Hussein Mohamed have been sent to key players in all sectors of the economy, civil society and religious leaders.
Organisers say this is the first of a series of similar events where average Kenyans will be invited to participate and contribute to the campaign kitties of their preferred candidates. "We are the first party to use the strategy which was successfully used by Obama in 2008. We want Kenyans to start investing in their politicians by contributing to their campaigns," a member of the organising committee said.
Apart from Karua giving her campaign platform, she is expected to announce the unique mobile number through which contributions to her campaign kitty can be made. Karua's dinner comes a month after Prime Minister Raila Odinga organized and hosted a similar dinner. However, those in attendance were each expected to pay Sh100,000 for the privilege.
Meanwhile, the ODM national governing council meets tomorrow at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi to ratify the party's new elections and nomination rules and regulations. Th regulations will be applied in the nomination exercise to ensure free, fair and transparent process ahead of the general election. ODM executive director Janet Ong'era said the delegates conference will set the date for the national delegates convention.
