Uganda: Museveni Meets Bujagali Dam Contractors

President Yoweri Museveni has hailed Salini Costruttori, the contractors of Bujagali Hydro power project for the completion of the project which he says has helped the country meet part of its much needed electricity needs.

The President was Thursday meeting Claudio Lavtizi the General Manager of Salini overseas at his country home in Rwakitura. Claudio was accompanied by the Italian Ambassador to Uganda Stefano Dejak, Leonardo Blanda the country manager and Daniele Cascianelli the project manager in Uganda.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of State for Energy Eng. Simon Du'jang, Finance minister Maria Kiwanuka and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy Kabagambe Kaliisa.

The Bujagali hydropower dam project is funded by the World Bank, European Investment Bank (EIB), African Development Bank (ADB), Netherlands Development Finance Company (NDFC), German's KFW and Absa Capital at a cost of approximately US$600. It is expected to produce another 50 MW on the national grind.

Early this year, the President launched the $45.14m project which is supposed to increase access to cheaper and more dependable electricity supply in the country. The broadcast line system withdraws power from the Bujagali hydropower station to the rest of the country ting projects which in turn meets the electricity needs for people of Uganda.

President Museveni has been at the forefront of promoting electricity production to drive industrialization and create jobs.

Claudio Lavtizi said he looks forward to working with the government of Uganda on other electricity generating projects, adding that they are looking at various other project designs along river Nile.

The hydropower project will produce substantial benefits for Uganda and for citizens living in the area of the facility.
