Few days after four kidnappers, including a woman were arrested and their victim rescued in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital by the state police command, a daughter of a former senator was kidnapped yesterday by gunmen.

The victim, Mrs. Diepreye Dagi Darego, daughter of Senator Nimi Barigha-Amange, was kidnapped at 9.00 am on the Port Harcourt International Airport road while she was on her way to receive her sister from the airport.

Confirming the incident on telephone, Senator Amange said the hoodlums shot severally at the car his daughter was using before they whisked her away to an unknown destination.

"My daughter, Mrs Diepreye Dagi Darego was kidnapped in Port Harcourt today at 9am. She was going to the airport to pick her sister," Amange said in a text message.

According to him, Diepreye was planning her traditional marriage which was supposed to commence today in Bayelsa State.

He disclosed further that there has been communication between the kidnappers and his relatives, expressing confidence that his daughter would soon regain her freedom

When contacted, the Rivers State police public relations officer, Mr. Ben Ugwegbulam, denied knowledge of the incident.
