Nigeria: Constitution Amendment - Northern Governors Move Against Seven-Year Single Term

Governors of the 19 states of the north rose from a meeting on Thursday night with a firm decision to challenge President Goodluck Jonathan's bid for a seven- year single term in the proposed constitution amendment.

"That the extant provision of the constitution that provides for two terms of four years for president and governors be maintained," a communique issued after the meeting and signed by chairman of the Northern States Governors' Forum and Niger State governor Dr. Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu noted.
