Tunisia: BPA Company Plans to Create Deepwater Port in Bizerte

Tunis — Tunisian Company Bizerte Port Autonome (BPA SA), has submitted to the Ministry of Transport, a preliminary study for the creation of a deepwater port in Bizerte, in accordance with modern standards.

Mr. Kais Laribi, CEO of BPA SA told TAP that this project, which takes into consideration the impact on the neighbouring maritime and forest environment, will generate three years after the creation of the port 37,830 direct jobs (administrative and port jobs) and indirect ones.

The company chose to create this port in Bizerte given its strategic position, the significant maritime traffic and the crossing of at least two hundred vessels per day. The region also has infrastructure needed for the creation of the project, particularly the Tunis/Bizerte motorway, the rail network, 9 industrial zones, a cluster and maritime works company.

The CEO of BPA SA emphasised the importance of this project in boosting industrial economic activity, food industry and services in the region. This project will be fully funded by the company with foreign partners.
