ZANACO'S decision to put their MTN Premier Division League title ambitions on hold in preference for a friendly against DR Congo giants, TP Mazembe at the weekend, backfired as they were trounced 3-0 in Lubumbashi.
After skipping their MTN Premier Division League match against Napsa Stars, Zanaco, who initially held their own against the former African champions, were sunk by goals from Tresor Mputu's brace and another strike by Thomas Ulimwengu.
In the first half, the Zambians took the Congolese, who fielded Chipolopolo players Stoppila Sunzu, Hichani Himoonde, Rainford Kalaba, Given Singuluma and Francis Kasonde, punch for punch.
The five-time Zambian champions, who were led by FAZ treasurer, Kelvin Mutafu, returned from Lubumbashi yesterday.
Zanaco will get back to the local league action on Wednesday against Napsa Stars as they try to regain the top slot they lost to bitter rivals, Zesco United at the weekend.
Mazembe invited Zanaco for an international friendly match to help them prepare for this weekend's Orange African Champions League tie against Egyptian side, Zamalek.
