Closing remarks by Her Excellency the First Lady, Dame (Dr.) Patience Goodluck Jonathan at the end of the meeting of the steering committee of African First Ladies Peace Mission on Friday, 27th July, 2012

Let me thank you all members of the Steering Committee and members of the Sub-Committees for your various contributions and suggestions towards laying a solid foundation for peace in Africa and moving the vision of the Peace Mission forward.

I am confident that all the issues raised will be properly addressed. I urge the committees to work hard to implement the decisions we have reached today.

Let me remind you that your committees have limited time within which to execute this project. I also want to implore Chairpersons of the committees to please carry their members along so that we can collectively achieve the desired objectives.

With regards to mobilizing the First Ladies around the continent for their co-operation, I am happy to inform you that I have already initiated efforts to meet the Deputy Presidents in the regions.

While I have interacted with the Namibian First Lady, I plan to meet the other regional Deputy Presidents in the weeks ahead. I will also take advantage of the ECOWAS Summit in December this year to sensitise ECOWAS First Ladies who would be coming with their spouses.

This will help to set the platform for the summit of African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM) in March next year.

I expect that African First Ladies would have got the first set of notifications for the AFLPM summit by the end this year.

Let me thank you once again for making out time to come and for your commitment and zeal to serve the nation.

I thank you so much and I look forward to seeing you all at the Stakeholders Luncheon on Thursday.

God bless you all
