Nigeria: FG to Tackle Locust Invasion - Minister

Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Bukar Tijani, says the Federal Government is ready to offer assistance to states that are prone to locust invasion and other trans-boundary pests in the country.

Responding to a threat alert of an impending locust invasion in the northern part of Nigeria by the Food and Agricultur Organization (FAO), Tijani said government was prepared to intervene in the event of such an invasion.

He noted plans under the Agriculture Transformation Agenda (ATA) for intervention in incidences of pests and diseases of trans-boundary nature.

The frontline states are Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Borno, Bauchi, Adamawa and Gombe.
