Nigeria: FG Tackles Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV/Aids

Federal Government is collaborating with state governments and private hospitals to prevent incidences of mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDs.

Minister of State for Health Dr. Muhammad Ali Pate disclosed this when he visited Nasarawa State Governor Tanko Al-Makura to assess how hospitals are rendering antenatal care and prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS services in the state.

Pate described the prevention of the transmission as one of the components of save one-million-live initiatives in Nigeria.

He said the state has one of the highest HIV/AIDS prevalence in the country and called for upgrading of health care centers to address the menace.

Responding on behalf Al-Makura, the Deputy Governor, Demeshi Luka Barau, said that the state government was worried about the prevalence of HIV/ AIDS in the state and promised government's resolve to reduce the menace.

The minister visited private hospital and model primary healthcare centres in the state.
