Windhoek — Zimbabwean long distance runner Lewis Masunda stole the show at the annual Dr. Sam Nujoma Half Marathon on Sunday in the capital, after he won the men's 21-km race to take home N$20 000.
In second place was local athlete Shannika Kristoff, who gave a good account of himself to finish as runner-up and walked away with N$6 000, while Paulus Iyambo had to be satisfied with a consolation 3rd-place finish and received N$ 4,000 for his efforts.
In the women's category, Nolene Conrad from South Africa was the proud winner in the women's 21-km race and also took home a cool N$20 000, while Namibia's emerging athlete Lavinia Haitope was the proud recipient of a handsome N$6 000 after finishing in 2nd-place, as Zimbabwean runner Tabitha Tsatsa came in at 3rd-place and cashed-in on N$3 000 in prize money.
Apart from the 21km event, a 10km and 5km race also took place on that day. The Dr. Sam Nujoma Windhoek Half Marathon was sponsored by MTC, as the main sponsor, and the Coca Cola bottling company. Kiddies athletics also took place in which children from the Hope Village were invited to participate.
