US Defense Minister Leon Panetta has renewed the US commitment to preserve strong military relations with Egypt, expressing satisfaction with peaceful transition in both Egypt and Tunisia.
He praised the progress achieved by the Egyptian people on transition towards democracy.
Panetta said before arrival in Cairo where he will have talks with President Mohamed Morsi and field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, the chief of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, that the Egyptian people should be happy with this progress.
Panetta, in statements on his way to Tunisia on the first leg of a tour that would take him also to Egypt, Israel and Jordan, hailed the SCAF role in supporting and securing free and fair Egyptian presidential elections.
