Kenya: ScanGroup Hits a 20-Month Closing High At 55.50

The benchmark index retreated for the 2nd session to close -16.22 points at 3854.28. Through Friday, the bench mark index had struck 7 consecutive 12 month closing highs.

The Nairobi All Share eased 0.30 points to close at 84.02. Market Cap was 1.108964 trillion. Equity turnover was 319.162m versus 359.997m last time. ScanGroup closed at a 20 month closing high. BAT closed at an all time high. Paul Melly resigned from the Standard Group.

In Agriculture

Eaagads was high ticked 9.23% to close at 35.50. Eaagads is the only coffee pure play at the Nairobi Securities Exchange.

In Commercial and Services

Safaricom traded 2nd at the exchange and closed 2.56% lower at 3.80 with 11.869m shares worth 45.319m traded. Safaricom rallied 33.898% from the beginning of the year through 26th July, when it closed at a 15 month closing high of 3.95. Standard Group announced the resignation of Paul Melly before the opening bell. Standard Group did not trade. Nation Media firmed a shilling to close at 173.00 while ScanGroup rallied 3.73% to close at 55.50, which is a fresh 2012 and a 20 month closing high. ScanGroup traded 56,900 shares. ScanGroup is +33.73% in 2012 and trades on a trailing PE of 21.7903.

Among Banks

Kenya Commercial Bank retreated 1.03% to close at 24.00 and was lightly traded with 361,500 shares worth 8.751m changing hands. KCB is +53.412% on a total return basis in 2012 and reported an H1 PBT acceleration of 48.18% last week. Diamond Trust Bank closed unchanged at 95.00 and was lightly traded with just 3,000 shares changing hands. DTB is +8.571% 2012, trades on a 6.996 trailing PE and a price to book of 1.6476. Equity Bank traded 3rd at the exchange and eased 1.11% to close at 22.25 and traded 1.521m shares worth 34.166m. CIC Insurance rallied 5.555% to close at 4.75 and was trading at 4.95 +10% and its daily limit into the closing bell. Britak rallied 4.46% to close at 5.85 and traded 330,500 shares. Britak haas rallied 12.5% over the last 4 weeks as Investors factor in firmer prices into the portfolio. Centum eased 1.93% to close at 12.70 and was trading at session lows of 12.45 -3.86% at the closing bell. Centum traded 91,700 shares. Centum is -5.925% in 2012.

In Industrial and Allied

BAT firmed 0.26% to close at 384.00 and was the most actively traded share at the Nairobi Securities Exchange with 181,200 shares worth 69.638m changing hands. BAT closed at an all time closing high at 383.00. BAT is +67.073% on a total return basis in 2012 and trades on a Trailing PE of 12.395. KenGen traded 4th and closed unchanged at 8.30 and traded 2.835m shares worth 23.536m. KenGen had its most active session in 2012 yesterday. KPLC [Kenya Power] firmed 0.66% to close at 15.30 and traded 230,000 shares. Mumias Sugar firmed 0.72% to close at 7.00 and traded 1.026m shares worth 7.183m. Mumias Sugar is +32.0754% in 2012 and trades on a PE of 5.5556.
