Nigeria: PHCN Privatization - Workers Want Entitlements Paid

Lagos — Electricity workers un-der the Senior Staff of Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC) and the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) have urged the federal government to settle their arrears before privatizing the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

The government is billed to finally complete the sale of the power company by October this year. But the workers at a sensitization programme in Lagos yesterday said only the settlement of their entitlements would guarantee a level playing ground in the process to transfer the assets of the power company to its new owners. Speaking at the programme, Mr. Bede Opara, President General of SSAEAC, urged the federal government to respect the agreement it reached with the two unions and settle the workers entitlements accordingly.
