Nigeria: Kano Bans Production of Cough Syrup With Codeine

Kano — The Kano State government has banned the production and distribution of cough syrups containing codeine and tramadol in the state as part of efforts to check drug abuse among youths, the state's Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abuabakar Labaran Yusuf has said.

Yusuf, in a statement signed by Ismaila Garba Gwammaja, after addressing members of the Nigeria Association of Industrial Pharmacists in Kano, who paid him a courtesy visit yesterday, warned that the government "will not condone this negative attitude which aids in increasing the crime rate and other deviant behaviours in the state.
