Kenya: Meat Producers Secure Deal to Export Livestock

Kenya meat products have entered the lucrative Chinese market thanks to a deal signed between the ministry of Livestock and two private firms.

Mercbima International of Kenya will export livestock products to the China through Loyalty International Trading Co. of China for a period of five years. The Chinese firm shall also supply the ministry with assorted livestock feeds.

The two firms yesterday signed the deal at the ministry of Livestock that was witnessed by PS Kenneth Lusaka and Loyalty CEO Wang Zhao. The ministry committed itself to facilitate the deal as Kenya Meat Commission shall be supplying the meat for export. "This is five partnership where Mercbima will buy various products including beef from KMC and export to china through Loyality," Mercbima CEO Joe Mutambo said.

Mutambo said the partnership will pub into the Kenyan economy over 500 billion shilling in the next five years since the country has never exported its livestock products to the Chinese economy. The two firms will also export pork from Farmers Choice and chicken from Kenchic. PS Lusaka said the ministry will continue supporting any Kenyan firms that will market the Kenyan livestock products abroad saying this deal will expend the work of KMC and assist in its complete turnaround.
