Gambia: UK High Commissioner Opens FLAG Sharia Law Training

The High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to The Gambia, David Morley, Wednesday officially opened the Female Lawyers Association of The Gambia (FLAG) Sharia law training, a dispatch from thehigh commission stated.

The Female Lawyers Association of The Gambia was recently awarded over 240,000 Dalasis (£5,000) from the UK High Commission to conduct Sharia law training for 10 FLAG members, to enable them offer legal representation to vulnerable women and children across The Gambia. The initiative comes against the backdrop of the recent ruling by the Cadi court that all legal representatives must have sufficient training in Sharia law before they are able to bring cases before the court.
