Influential defender Faustin Usengimana will again not be part of the junior wasps team U-20 which will face Mali in the return leg, second round of the Africa Youth Championship qualifier, due in Bamako on August 11.
According to team doctor Patrick Rutamu, the former Rayon Sport defender overstretched his adductors on his left hip in Rwanda's win 1-0 over Nigeria in a friendly match prior to the Mali qualifier, a fortnight ago at Stade de Kigali.
As a result, the former U-17 starlet missed the first leg played last weekend which Rwanda came from behind to win 2-1. "Since picking the injury, he has not had the opportunity to train with his team mates, which makes him a major doubt for the second leg as in Mali," Rutamu told Times Sport yesterday.
The Junior Wasps team is working on the finishing touches in a bid to ensure they protect their slim one goal advantage in the return leg.
In the first leg, Mali opened the scoring through Diallo Sambo on the 22nd minute but the hosts rallied back with two second half goals from Mukura striker Emmanuel 'Crespo' Sebanani and SC Kiyovu defender Patrick Umwungeli.
The winner between Rwanda and Mali will meet Zambia in the third and final qualifying round.
