Tanzania: China Donates Desks to Primary School

Zanzibar — CHINA is funding the reconstruction of a primary school at Mwanakwerekwe in Zanzibar and donated desks.

Consul General, Ms Chen Lin handed over 480 desks to the Zanzibar Second Vice-President, Ambassador Seif Ali Iddi, at a ceremony to launch the construction of primary school project.

The Principal Secretary, Ministry of Educational and Vocational Training, Ms Mwanaidi Saleh, informed the gathering that construction of the primary school at the cost of US 1.6 million dollars will have 12 classrooms and would be completed by March next year.

"The school will also have a modern library, and a computer lab," Mwanaidi said adding that Mwanakwerekwe is the second school to be constructed by China after Kijichi Primary School.

The principal secretary said that the desks would be distributed to 13 schools including Bububu, Ukongoroni, Makadara, Karume Donge,Kitope, Kijichi, Matetema, Charawe, Donge Mtambile, Muembe Shauri, Rahaleo, Karange na Kidagoni.

Ambassador Iddi who visited Sichuan province in China made a formal request for the desks and thanked China for the support saying that it was a boost towards the education sector.
