Nigeria: How Community Celebrated Birth of First Triplet

Kaduna — On Monday, July 30, 2012, Hunkuyi community in Kudan local government area of Kaduna State recorded the birth of its first set of triplet. Weekly Trust reports

During the night of Sunday, July 29, 2012, Malama Lubabatu Yahuza Abubakar Mai Video has to be rushed to the Gambo Sawaba General Hospital in Kofar Gayan, Zaria from Hunkuyi, the headquarters of Kudan local government area of Kaduna State. The local dispensary at Hunkuyi couldn't handle her case, hence she was moved to Zaria, a distance of over 50 kilometres.

At about 1 pm of Monday, Malama Lubabatu was delivered of triplet at the hospital. When the news filtered into Hunkuyi town, jubilations ensued as elderly residents of the area have confirmed that it was the first time the community had triplet.

An elder in the community, Malam Abubakar Shehu, said he cannot remember when last a set of triplet was delivered in the community.

"This may be the secret behind the enthusiasm. This is why, perhaps, many people are trooping to the house to see the triplet because many residents have never seen triplet live," Malam Shehu said.

The father of the three baby girls, Malam Yahuza Abubakar Mai Video, said signs that his wife's pregnancy was a special one began to emerge at the early stages.

"We had to relieve her of performing all domestic activities when the pregnancy was about four months. At that early stage, she became very heavy. The condition became severe when the pregnancy entered the eighth month. Sometimes, she had to crawl if she wants to move from place to the other. That was how it continued with one problem or the other until she gave birth on Monday," Malam Mai Video said.

On the other hand, however, he said said while he thanked Allah for the blessing, he needs assistance to be able to take care of the three baby girls.

"When I was told that my wife was delivered of three babies, I was caught between thanking my creator and how to take care of the Allah's gift. I have nothing to say than to thank Allah for the gift, but I need the assistance of governments at all levels and individuals to be able to take good care of the three babies especially for the fact that I am a peasant farmer and the doctors had advised for special care for the mother. The triplet brings the number of my children to seven," he asid said.

While Malam Mai Video is struggling to find a way out on how to take care of his "special gift", residents of Hunkuyi are continuing to troop to his house to have a glimpse of the three "bouncing" baby girls. This development is, perhaps, compounding Mai Video's problem as he has to contend with how to entertain his guests.
