Zambia: Bowlers in Mixed Fortune

THE Zambia Bowling team on Thursday posted mixed results at the 2012 African States Championships in South Africa with women's top player, Matimba Like winning her two singles' matches at the Umhlali Country Club in Durban.

While Like beat her Swaziland and Botswana opponents, Christie Kapata trounced 21-12 over Allan Thomas of Swaziland before tumbling to Botswana's Oabona Motladiile 10-21.

Like trounced over Karin Byers of Swaziland 21-8 before then narrowly beat Botswana's Lebo Mascarenhas 21-19 in her second match.

According to results released by Sports Council of Zambia (SCZ) board member, Ian Mbewe, who is delegation leader in South Africa, the women's team edged Swaziland 16-15 in the foursomes but lost the second to Botswana 13-17.

Mbewe said the men's squad lost the first foursomes match to Swaziland 10-20 before grabbing the second 19-15 over Botswana.

Zambia won gold in the women's doubles competition. The African States Championships which started last Sunday ends today and is being contested by Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
