Bazia Antoni was born on December 25th to the Lou group of the Balinda-Boor tribe in the town of Wau. Christened Antoni Bazia, he has now reversed his name to show his pride in his family's position as hereditary leaders of their tribe and their area which is also called Bazia.

This area was named for Bazia Antoni's great-grandfather. His father, Henry Bazia, was a diplomat and naval officer with an expertise in firearms. He also had a passion for human rights, and like previous generations of Bazias, he instilled in his son a legacy of speaking out for people who could not always speak for themselves.
