Garsela — At least 5 IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) children have lost their lives. And the fate of more than 13 people remains unknown after floods swept through the area.

The floods were caused by the heavy torrential rains of the past two days.

In addition to the destruction of food supplies in the displaced camps of Garsela, Wadi Saleh, and Bindassey in central Darfur and el- Geneina, hundreds of homes have collapsed. A female activist from camp Jabalain in Garsela told Radio Dabanga that the torrential rains and floods that swept through the camps in the region left 5 children dead, and the fate of more than 13 people remains unknown.

More than 800 families have been displaced and around 11 livestock were left dead. The female activist pointed out that the bodies of unidentified drowned people were recovered nearby the affected areas. She added that the people in Garsila buried the bodies.

She also told Radio Dabanga that Siqia village south of Garsila had been destroyed completely, and the inhabitants have fled to the highlands. The activist called upon humanitarian agencies to provide emergency relief for the displaced.
