Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Kandil promised those responsible for Sunday's Sinai attack a harsh and painful response.
Kandil said, "I will work with Egypt's armed forces and the interior ministry to bring justice to the martyrs", the Middle East News Agency reported.
On Sunday evening, an attack on Sinai's Rafah border resulted in the death of 16 Egyptian police and army men and the injury of others.
The attack was initiated by a group of jihadist militants who entered through the tunnel from the Gaza Strip, the state news agency said.
