Nigeria: Multichoice Increases DStv Subscription Fees

Lagos — Starting from September 1, DStv subscribers would pay more to access its content except for those who renew their subscription before it expires, the company has said.

Subscribers that renew their subscriptions before it expires would get 10 percent discount and would pay a little less than their previous monthly subscription.

The new subscription rates are: DStv Family now N3000, previously N2,800; DStv Compact now N5000, previously N4,800; DStv Compact Plus now N7,500, previously N7,000 and DStv premium is now N11,000, previously N10,000.

There is however no increase in the prices of DStv Access which remains at N1,500, while the dual view access fee for HDPVR both remains at N1,800.

The managing director of MultiChoice Nigeria Mr. John Ugbe explained at the weekend in Lagos that the price increase has been necessitated by ongoing increases in the company's operational and ancillary costs which include; content acquisition and development, technical infrastructure, satellite lease, facilities and maintenance.

He also said the increase is important if quality programming will be sustained on the DStv stable.
