Liberia: Finance Ministry Reacts to NEC Claims

The Ministry of Finance has sharply reacted to claims made by National Elections Commission's(NEC) Acting Chairman, Cllr. Elizabeth J. Nelson, that there is 50% reduction in the Commission's budget thereby posing serious risks to preparation for both the mid-term senatorial election in 2014 and the 2017 presidential and legislative elections as reported in the Friday, August 3, 2012 edition of the FrontPageafrica newspaper.

The Ministry of Finance in its clarification indicated that the 2012-2015 Medium Term Budget does not reflect the budget for the 2017 presidential and legislative elections because that election will take place beyond the current medium term expenditure framework.
