Nigeria: President Jonathan Congratulates New Catholic Archbishop of Lagos

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan congratulates Archbishop Alfred Adewale Martins on his formal installation yesterday as the Archbishop of the Catholic Arch-Diocese of Lagos following his appointment to the position by Pope Benedict XVI.

In a release signed by Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity) Reuben Abati in Abuja on August 5, President Jonathan wishes Archbishop Martins continued Divine guidance and blessings as he assumes the high ecclesiastical position worthily held for almost four decades by Cardinal Anthony Olubunmi Okogie.

The President prays that God Almighty will grant Archbishop Martins the good health, fortitude, courage and wisdom he requires to successfully lead the larger laity and clergy of the Catholic Church in the Arch-Diocese of Lagos.

President Jonathan assures Archbishop Martins that the Federal Government will continue to work with him and other religious leaders to promote religious tolerance, inter-faith harmony and peace in all parts of the country.
