Tanzania: TBL Hands Over 15 Water Wells

TANZANIA Breweries Limited (TBL) has handed over 15 clean and safe water wells worth 39m/- to benefit over 6,000 Ruhuhu and Manda residents in Ludewa District, Njombe Region, being part of company's corporate social responsibility.

The TBL Corporate Affairs and Legal Director, Mr Steve Kilindo, said at the handing over ceremony in Ludewa over the weekend that the brewing firm decided to drill the water wells to support government efforts to deliver quality services to people.

Mr Kilindo urged Ruhuhu and Manda residents to form village committees to preserve the resources and water sources for environmental conservation. The village committees may also design strategies to run the project sustainably through regular maintenances.

Speaking at the launching of the project on behalf of the Ludewa District Commissioner, Mr Januarisius Mwambeleko, the Masasi Division Secretary said some of the villagers which will benefit are Ngelenge, Nsungu, Mbogo, Ilela and Kipinga who were spending more than five hours a day in search for water.

"The project has come at a right time because several villagers have lost their lives for being attacked by crocodiles at Ruhuhu River," he said.
