Former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida

Former military rulers Muhammadu Buhari and Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida's public condemnation cannot stop Boko Haram, leader of Niger Delta People Volunteer Force, Mujahid Asari Dokubo has said.

Dokubo, who was reacting to the public disagreement between IBB and chief Edwin Clark said the ex-leaders have not condemned the sect because they are afraid of death adding that IBB should be able to condemn the group since had said he would go to war keep Nigeria united.

Asari, who claimed that the former military leader's pledge to fight to keep Nigeria united was an illusion, called for formation of vigilante groups to be able to bring the security problem under control.

GEJ must convene SNC

"Goodluck will convene a Sovereign National Conference whether he likes it or not," said Asari with rising anger, "because which president if not for Goodluck will accept somebody to tell him that become a Muslim or resign. What insult? Is that what prophet Sallalahualihiwassalam did: become a Muslim or this...? If na me, tankers will roll out. Now na Maiduguri it is going, now na Yobe e dey go. I will shoot and shoot till they say what kind of a man is this?"

"You can't push somebody beyond the wall. This insult is too much. Did you do it to Abacha? Did you do it to IBB? You see, I see the arrogance as un-Islamic, the arrogance of Shekau and his followers"

In defence of Jonathan

Mujahid Dokubo Asari came down hard on those calling President Jonathan a clueless president saying the leaders from the north who had been ruling the country from independence should be blamed for the problem of the country.

He took a swipe at northern leaders who he claimed stole money from the public till without putting anything in the north. He warned that if Goodluck Jonathan does the same thing, he would have himself to be blamed.

Amnesty is a bribe

"The amnesty programme is a bribe," Dokubo declared. They gave the bribe to some people who are running around kidnapping, doing bunkering and said said 'stop. Let the oil flow'. That is just what the amnesty is. I did not take amnesty."

" How can you criminalise me for me to benefit from my resources? It is immoral. But having said that, have there been benefits from the amnesty programme? Yes, there have been. The people managing the amnesty process have tried," he said.

" But that amnesty will not work because if Goodluck think all of us will be criminalised to take amnesty, we will not. And that means that they are saying that all of these people who did not take amnesty should go back and start shooting. Very soon, it will happen. It has taught us that you gain by criminality, you gain by kidnapping ...which is immoral."

"The North will suffer"

Asari threatened that in the event of war the north will suffer. Though it pains him as a Muslim, "what will happen is unimaginable in human history."

" In the past two decades" said Asari, "apart from Sri Lanka, nobody has won a war. Nobody has won a war against another country. The war will continue for ever,if you start a war, it will continue forever. We are just waiting. It is we that you are pushing. You will push us to the extent that we will tell Goodluck that you are on your own. Now we want to fight and the guns will start coming out."

"What will happen is unimaginable in the history of the world. I feel pained because I am a Muslim. I know the north will suffer because not only oil, we will cut them off totally from the cost. No food will go in. If Benin Republic allows anything to come in our pirates will be raiding the Benin republic ships everyday so that nothing will go in. If Togo allows them, we will do the same to Togo. We are capable of doing that. Now the Sahel is already war-ridden, Mali is at war and Libya is at war. So, where are the foods going to come in from? Where are the weapons going to come in?"

On Ogoni declaration

"They have done the right thing. For the governor of Rivers state, he does not understand the dynamics of political struggle. He is just a beneficiary. He never participated in the struggle. He didn't put in anything. He has 3 billion naira to spend every year and more. .. If he ties Ogoni down, can he tie other people down from doing what they are doing?"

On Federalism

"This is the truth that they have not learnt. That people will pay VAT in Lagos, and you will share the Vat in Lagos for Yobe. Then somebody says he does not drink alcohol. It is haram to drink alcohol, no be so, to buy alcohol, to receive proceed from alcohol? So, everybody in the north have been eating haram. VAT from alcohol is being distributed. Why? Is that justice? This is very simple.
