Zambia: Kambwili Promises Mulyashi Jobs

ROAN Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili says Luanshya residents will be given first priority for employment at the new Mulyashi Copper Mine in the area.

Mr Kambwili said unemployment levels were high in the area and that the local people should benefit.

He said he had received complaints from the community that the mine was engaged in some corrupt activities when employing adding that some outsiders were using local Luanshya addresses in order to get the jobs.

Mr Kambwili who is Minister of Youth and Sports told the people on Monday at Kansengu grounds in Mpatamatu Township that there would be no corruption at the mine and a team from the Labour office would be sent there to investigate the employment procedure.

He appealed to all the residents to apply for the jobs and assured them that they would be employed.

Meanwhile, Mr Kambwili was concerned when he was told that Mwaiseni and Nkulumashiba Basic Schools were operating without water in the area.

He said it was not safe for the schools to have no water because there could be outbreaks of deadly diseases.

He said he was told by some members of the community that the water problem at the schools was due to the negligence of Kafubu Water and Sewerage Company.

"I am appealing to Kafubu Water and Sewage Company, to come and find solutions to the water problems here.

Clean water and good sanitation is essential to every human being," he said.

He was also saddened to hear that male and female prisoners were sharing the same cells at Roan Police and assured the problem would soon be resolved.
