Rwanda: 2013 Kagame Cup Coming to Kigali

The 2013 Cecafa/Kagame club championship will be held in Kigali in January, according to Secretary General Nicholas Musonye.

Musonye told Times Sport yesterday by phone from Nairobi that Cecafa's wish is to have Kagame Cup tournament brought to Kigali next year.

"I am coming to Kigali before the end of the month to finalise talks on how this tournament can be organised," said Musonye.

The long-serving Cecafa SG noted that they want the tournament to be held in January as a way to help regional clubs prepare effectively for next year's continental assignments.

Tanzania's Yanga Africans won the 2012 title for the second year running after beating local rivals Azam in the final played three weeks ago in Dar es Salaam.

Rwanda's representatives and three-time winners APR, lost the third place playoff contest 2-1 to guests, DR Congo's AS Vita.

President Paul Kagame has been sponsoring the tournament to a tune of $60,000 in prize money since 2001.
