Egypt: Interior Ministry - Three Policemen, Citizen Wounded in Armed Clashes in Arish

Unidentified armed men attacked several security checkpoints in the North Sinai city of Arish late Tuesday 7/8/2012, wounding three police personnel and a citizen, the Interior Ministry said on Wednesday 8/8/2012.

The gunmen opened fire at security men stationed along the airport road's intersection with the ring road, and police forces chased them, a source at the ministry said.

With the assistance of Sinai residents, security men were able to locate the elements at areas adjacent to Sheikh Zuweid area and deal with them immediately in coordination with the Armed Forces.

The attacks come two days after 16 border guards were killed by militants in an attack on Rafah border checkpoint.
