Egypt's ministry of insurance and social affairs has received a noticeable increase in the requests for establishing new non-governmental organizations (NGOs), said minister Nagwa Khalil, adding that 4, 000 NGOs were given licenses since the beginning of this year.
Khalil added that the total number of licensed NGOs in Egypt has reached 38, 000, of which most are dedicated to political activity and human rights, reported the Middle East News Agency.
The newly-appointed minister added that economic and social development will lead to political participation.
"In the absence of decent living conditions, there is no room to discuss human rights and political participation - for the most basic rights are lost", she said.
Khalil expects the next period to witness great development in the support for Egypt's civil society through involving it in development programs and state plans due to its ability to reach the roots of society.
