Tunisia: Hostage Taking of 15 Fishermen in Kerkennah Ends

Tunis — Assisted by the national army, the national security forces put an end, Tuesday at dawn, the hostage taking of 15 fishermen and six fishing boats.

According to the Interior Ministry's communiqué published on Tuesday, these boats were hijacked, Monday, by fishermen native of Mellita locality, from the Gabes coasts towards the Kerkennah island, in reaction to receivership of one of their ships for banned fishing reason off Gabes.

The Interior Ministry accused these fishermen to have set fire in the coast guard post of Sidi Youssef and a vehicle of the national guard.

Important reinforcements were sent Tuesday at dawn to face up this situation went on saying the communiqué, indicating that several suspects were already arrested.
