Since 2008, thousands of East Africans have watched in awe as stars are borne out of the most elite singing contest in Africa, Tusker Project Fame (TPF). Weekend after weekend, the contestants appear to become better singers, thanks to rigorous efforts of a team of teachers and judges.
No doubt, the TPF academy is the ultimate place to identify, polish and pass out music stars. Two weeks ago we watched as another talent was passed out by the academy. Kenya's Ruth Matete beat 14 others to the grand prize of KShs 5m (about Shs150m) plus a recording deal with South Africa's Universal Records.
