The Coach of Sunshine Stars FC of Akure, Gbenga Ogunbote, said yesterday that they played well against their hosts, even though they lost 0-3 in the rescheduled Nigeria Premier League (NPL) encounter.

Ogunbote said in Akure on telephone that losing the match, which was played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, was unfortunate because his players performed well.

"It is unfortunate that we lost the match, the result was not a true picture of the game; we played well, but we could not get the result we wanted.

"The result of the match will not affect our preparation for our next game against Kwara United," he said.

Ogunbote also said that losing the match was not because of the absence of his key players, who were currently in the Super Eagles camp.

"Losing the game is not due to the absence of some of our key players who are in the Super Eagles camp.

"We have played without some of them against bigger teams and we got good results," he said.

Sunshine Stars are currently seventh on the NPL table, with 52 points from 36 games and will be facing Kwara United at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, on Sunday. NAN
