Rwanda/Mali: Tardy Buoyant Against Mali

Junior Wasps coach Richard Tardy insists that he will send his side out with a view to winning tomorrow's 2013 Africa Youth Championship second round return leg qualifier against Mali.

Rwanda leads the tie courtesy of second half goals from Emmanuel 'Crespo' Sebanani and Patrick Umwungeli in the first leg at Kigali Regional Stadium but Tardy believes playing to defend their modest 2-1 lead would be very dangerous considering the talent of the opposition.

"It is too difficult to play for a goalless draw," Tardy was quoted as saying, "To score would give us a greater advantage but we all know how difficult it is going to be.

"Ultimately, Mali will create chances but we have to try to score a goal. Of course we also have to try and limit the chances they create against us."

Despite instructing his team to attack in Bamako, Tardy has praised his side's solid defensive form in recent games, which include clean sheets against Namibia (in the first qualifying round) and Tanzania's Ngorongoro heroes (in a friendly match).

"I always talk about the collective performance that helps us defend as a team and every individual has to do their job within it," Tardy continued. "But I am very pleased with the way our defenders have been playing lately. We have defended very well."

However, the 62-year-old kept his team selection close to his chest.

"I am going to assess the physical and mental state of the players in the final training and make my team selection accordingly," he added.
