Zimbabwe: Mine to Hand Over Mt Darwin Clinic

Roserock Mine will tomorrow officially hand over a fully equipped clinic to the community of Mount Darwin West. Vice President Joice Mujuru, who is also the constituency's Member of Parliament, will be the guest of honour at the event. The clinic, whose construction started in August last year, will serve a population of about 12 000 people in the Chitse and Mudzengerere wards of Mount Darwin.

Roserock Mine is involved in the extraction of black granite blocks as well processing and export of finished products. It is a joint venture between indigenous Zimbabwean company Black Granite (Private) Limited and an Italian company, Red Graniti SpA.

Commenting on the community development initiative, Red Graniti-Roserock Mine managing director Mr Yves-Marc Charvet said: "This project is central to our corporate social responsibility programme. Our focus is to promote good relations nationally with stakeholders and assist in meeting community development needs in the areas which we operate."

Chitse Clinic brings medical services closer to the people in Chitse and Mudzengerere.

Prior to its construction, residents had to travel distances of up to 50km for medical attention.

The facility with modern amenities funded by Red Graniti-Roserock comprises the main clinic building and six staff houses. The clinic has a full complement of clinical equipment, beds, linen and furnishings.

Other developments at the clinic include a borehole with electric pump whose capacity is adequate for the clinic and the surrounding community, water reticulated toilets, an electric geyser system and Blair toilets.

The company also installed four overhead water storage tanks, a shower system for the clinic main building and staff houses, granite floors and a perimeter fence at the clinic.

Construction of Chitse clinic was a show of true co-operation and good relations between the community, local leaders, Government and Red Graniti-Roserocks.

The community contributed bricks and labour to the project while the company provided employment to community members that were involved in the construction of the clinic.
