Zambia: Headway in Harmonising Police Officers' Salaries

THE Ministry of Home Affairs has made progress to harmonise the salaries for police officers with those for security officers in the Ministry of Defence.

Home Affairs head of Public Relations Moses Suwali said in an interview in Lusaka that the process had reached an advanced stage and would soon be concluded.

Mr Suwali said the ministry would first concentrate on harmonising salaries for police officers before moving to officers in other departments in the ministry.

"We are currently concentrating to harmonise salaries for police officers and there after we shall move to officers in other security wings in the ministry like the Drug Enforcement Commission and the Prisons Department," he said.

He said the ministry was hopeful to conclude the process soon so that harmonised salaries could be effected soon.

President Michael Sata had promised to harmonise salaries for police officers to be equal to others falling under the Ministry of Defence.
