Egypt Can Deter Whoever Threatens National Security - Foreign Minister

Egypt will not tolerate tampering with the security of any Egyptian land, Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr has said. He promised to punish and deter whoever seeks to threaten the country's national security.

According to the Middle East News Agency (MENA), Amr said the Egyptian authorities are keen on intensifying action to handle the situation in Sinai.

The army's actions in Sinai and its firm military and security procedures "aim at restoring security and stability which is a matter of grave strategic importance to Egypt," Amr stated.

Egypt's political stance has been clear and decisive, the minister added. He reaffirmed that tampering with the security and stability of Sinai and any Egyptian land "is a red line that cannot be compromised."

Amr emphasized the importance of not giving any space for extreme groups "to represent a threat to Egypt's interests internally and externally."

"This will be a chief axis the Egyptian government will focus on in the coming phase," he added.
