Sierra Leone: Salone Striker Gets Dream Start in Sweden

Sierra Leone striker, James 'Beattie' Bangura got-off to a flying start on his trials with Swedish first division side, GIF Sundsvall.

The 21-year-old striker took only eight minutes to score his first goal in a GIF shirt to mark a dream start in his trials with the club. Bangura started as the leading striker in the Sundsvall clash against Hammarby in the U-21 series as he nodded vigorously a cross for Sundsvall's lead.

The Central Parade striker, who was replaced after 77 minutes, had several other scoring opportunities but could not find the net. "I love to score goals," the striker told the Dagbladet newspaper. "I felt good scoring that goal and I'm a player who is desperate to score goals and loves to do it," he added.

"In Sierra Leone, I played only the first half of the season where I scored eight goals in ten matches to win the golden boot. I could have scored more goals last season but I spent two months in Nigeria to get a visa and be able to be in Sweden."

The striker, who is under contract with Central Parade, is in Sundsvall as a player for the future, said the club's recruitment officer Urban Hagblom.

"He is having a contract in Sierra Leone but if he attracted us at GIF Sundsvall, we will find a solution. But now we get to know each other to see if he can eventually be something for Giffarna. It is perhaps no player that enters directly today but he is here to see if there might be something for us in the long run," said Hagblom.
