SADC — SADC-appointed facilitator South African President Jacob Zuma is expected in the country this week to meet principals of the GPA ahead of the 32nd Sadc heads of state and government summit in Maputo, Mozambique on August 17 and 18.

Sources said Zuma's office has been communicating with the Zimbabwe government about the proposed trip but has been facing stiff resistance from Zanu PF hawks who don't want the visit sanctioned before they complete amending the draft constitution.

Despite the draft being completed on July 18, Zanu PF has been haggling over the document demanding that a number of changes be made. Zanu PF's politburo has met for over 42 hours over the draft in the past three weeks, showing the party was virtually rewriting the document to suit its political designs.

Sadc has consistently requested Zuma to visit Zimbabwe to be appraised on the situation before every summit.
