Kenya: Speed Up Reforms in Police - Tororei

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights wants the government to speed up reforms in the police force ahead of the general election. Commissioner Samuel Tororei says the police force must be restructured before the elections. Tororei said although the overall reforms envisaged ahead of the polls were on track in other sectors, the securities agencies reforms were yet to fully implemented with only a few months to the polls. "We need to speed up institutional reforms so that we strengthen them since they will play a key role in country's stability", said Tororei.

Tororei said KNCHR would work with grassroots civil society groups to push for reforms. "We need to adhere to the threshold set by the constitution on leadership and integrity," said Tororei. Meanwhile police in Rift Valley have launched joint peace initiatives with the youth and other community groups.
