Provision has been made in the 2013 budget to fund the training of science and mathematics teachers with technical expertise from Japanese government, Minister of State for Education Barrister Nyesom Wike has said.
Wike, who received the new Chief Representative of Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA), Tetsuo Seki, at the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja yesterday, said students' poor performance in public examinations was worse in science subjects and government wanted to reverse the trend.
He said the Strengthening Mathematics and Science Education (SMASE) project executed in conjunction with JICA had suffered setbacks in the past due to constraint of funds.
