Zambia: Chipata Guard Accidentally Shoots Self

A security guard from Armguard Security Company yesterday accidentally shot himself in the leg in a bizarre incident at Great East Mall in Chipata, Eastern Province.

The guard, who has been identified as Tazman Siyamboni, was on duty providing security to bank officials who were loading money in the Automated Teller Machines (ATM) when he accidentally pulled the trigger of a green rifle gun and shot himself in the leg.

The incident happened in full view of some shoppers including some people who wanted to draw money from the ATM at the newly constructed shopping mall.

A Times team that rushed to the scene of the accident found the security guard lying in a pool of blood as he was bleeding profusely from the injury he sustained in his right leg.

He was quickly rushed to Chipata General Hospital in an Armguard Security motor vehicle where he was admitted as scores of Chipata residents rushed to the scene to catch a glimpse of the injured security guard.
