Tunisia: Salafists Attempt to Block Humorist Lotfi Abdelli's Show At Sfax Municipal Theatre

Sfax — A group of Salafists attempted, on Friday night, to block humorist Lotfi Abdelli's show "100% Halal" at the Municipal Theatre of Sfax.

The reinforced presence of security forces on the scene had aborted this attempt and safeguarded access ways to the theatre where Lotfi Abdelli's show started on time and was attended by a large audience.

Last Tuesday, the same show was cancelled at the Bayram Ettounsi Youth Centre in Menzel Bourguiba, Governorate of Bizerte, after a group of Salafists blocked access to the show.

The Ministry of Culture bad denounced, in a statement released recently, "these acts which represent a blatant violation of the freedom of expression and undermine cultural rights and state property."

The Ministry has expressed solidarity with and support for artists, saying that this case will be brought to justice.
