Maiduguri — Alhaji Zanna Kafilama, former secretary to the late Shehu of Borno Alhaji Mustapha El-Kanemi, was on Thursday killed by two unidentified gunmen in the Polo Area of Maiduguri.
Weekly Trust gathered that Kafilama was shot dead while returning home from a mosque in the area after observing the Tarawih prayer.
A source who does not want to be named said the two men came inside the mosque before other congregation around 8pm and pretended as if they are waiting for the Tarawih prayer.
"One of them hid an AK47 riffle under his praying mat and as soon as people started coming out of the mosque after the prayers we heard sound of gunshots. Many people inside and outside the mosque had to runaway," he added.
Spokesman of the Borno police command, DSP Gideon Jibrin, confirmed the incident to newsmen.
