Kaduna — The activist and president of Civil Rights Congress of Nigeria (CRC), Shehu Sani, has said the proposed talks between Federal Government and Boko Haram sect may have been designed by government to give Nigerians false hope that they are at the verge of combating insecurity in the country.

He was reacting to recent reports that government and the sect are in direct talks.

According to him, the talk between Federal Government and Boko Haram is not impossible but it must be done honestly and sincerely as well as through channels that are credible.

"I am not aware of any talk going on. If there is going to be any genuine talk, there should be confirmation from the leadership of the group and not government. The only channel of communication of Boko Haram from what we know is through YouTube posting.

I do not think that there is any dialogue going on because it has not come from the usual source," he said.
